Hi there! I’m Lisa Bedford, the Survival Mom!
I help moms learn how to prepare and equip their families for those critical moments when life hits you hard and there’s no time to figure out what to do. I give you training, resources, and encouragement so when those emergencies hit, you’ll be prepared and will know exactly what to do.
My story
In 2009, the Great Recession hit my family hard, and I realized that we were a lot more vulnerable than I realized.
Our family business came close to shutting down, and we had to cut every expense possible. When I had to cancel my son’s guitar lessons — the money just wasn’t there — it really hit home that we could lose more than just those lessons.
With just a quick look around my neighborhood I saw that we weren't alone.
So many good, hardworking people lost their jobs, homes, and financial security, almost overnight.
That's when I decided I didn't have to sit on the sidelines and wait for the worst to happen.
I began digging around the internet for information, and it didn’t take long before I ended up in the realm of the doomers, survivalists telling me I needed thousands of pounds of wheat and a stockpile of weapons.
I sorted through mountains of information, found what applied to my family, and got busy “prepping”. I had no idea what preppers were. I only knew that I didn’t have to be a helpless victim. I wanted to be proactive and prepare for emergencies by doing what moms have always done — taking charge and getting things done!
Quickly, my emergency food supply began to grow as I furiously clipped coupons and scoured grocery store sale ads. In a single day, I assembled a vehicle emergency kit and a few supplies to help us deal with power outages.

When larger websites began publishing my articles, and I was interviewed by Newsweek, Fox News, CNN, and other major news outlets, I knew I wasn't alone.

My message resonated with people from all walks of life and from all corners of the globe.
Unknowingly, I had landed right in the middle of the prepping craze, and soon became known as “Queen of the Preppers”.
Unlike most other prepping and survival experts, though, we were so much like every other family that one reporter said, “You seem so…happy and normal.”
Why, thanks! I like to think of myself as just a very smart and very aware mom who will do whatever it takes to safeguard her family.
If you’ve read my story this far, I think you’re that same kind of mom. You’d jump in front of anything to save the lives of your kids — we have a lot in common.
Now I’m the founder of all things Survival Mom. I’m editor of The Survival Mom blog, author of two books, creator of Survival Mom Sisterhood (an online membership), and thousands of people have taken my courses. It keeps me busy, but helping moms like you is my passion.
