arizona flag Phoenix area SurvivalMom classesLearn more about preparedness at a SurvivalMom class!  My fun, interactive classes are filled with loads of information about food storage, how to use a solar oven, how to get ready for an evacuation, and tons more.   As a teacher and trainer for more than 25 years, spreading the word of preparedness just comes naturally, I guess!

Here is my schedule for April and May, with more classes to be added.  To register, click on “Class Registration” on the top navigation bar.  You’ll receive a confirmation email that you’ve registered.  If you don’t receive this email, register again or email me, lisa@thesurvivalmom.com.

Honeyville Farms in Chandler:

(The class fee of $15, or two classes for $25, includes a 25-30 page manual.)

Cooking Off the Grid: Electrical outages, rolling black-outs or just roughing it in the wilderness don’t have to mean eating cold ravioli out of the can!  Learn now how to cook off the grid, all while maintaining a commitment to eating well.  This class will teach you how to cook delicious meals with a solar oven, as well as the use of a rocket stove, and even a homemade hobo stove!  Saturday, April 10, 2-4 p.m.

Preparedness 101:  Preparedness is a mindset and lifestyle that is purposeful and fun.  Learn about the nine elements of “Purposeful Preparedness”, including water and food storage, financial preparedness, ways to secure your home, and more.  You’ll leave with a better understanding of what it means to be prepared and a practical plan to put into place.  Saturday, April 17, 10-noon.

Food Storage Basics:  Having 90 days worth of food makes so much sense in today’s economy and our uncertain future.  Yet it’s easy to become overwhelmed when thinking of how to store that much food.  Rather than waste money, time, and eventually, the food itself, this class presents a simple plan to begin your food storage along with dozens of how-to tips to insure you get the most for your money.  Saturday, April 17, 1:30-3:30

At Cabela’s in Glendale:

I’ve always been committed to teaching my children practical, meaningful skills, and what could be more enjoyable and practical than learning basic safety rules in the wilderness.  With camping season upon us, these classes teach kids how to be safe in the wilderness, how to signal for help if lost, how to be safe around Arizona wildlife, and then how to use all the tools in their very own Survival Kit.  My students love this class and tell me they wish it had lasted longer!  Class t-shirts are available for $8.

Wilderness Survival for Kids:  While I can’t promise kids they’ll leave the class as miniature Bear Grylls, I can promise them loads of educational fun.  They’ll learn all about emergency blankets, how to use a mirror and whistle to signal for help, why they shouldn’t eat whatever plants they happen to find, and the best way to be safe around rattlesnakes.  The class fee of $20 includes a 10-piece Survival Kit, complete with a backpack.  This two-hour class is for ages 8-12, although younger children can attend if accompanied by a parent.  Saturdays: April 10, May 8, and May 22, 10-12 noon.

Mommy and Me: Wilderness Safety:  Not to leave out the youngest children in the family, since they are just as likely to wander off, this one-hour class is geared for children ages 3-7.  They’ll hear a story about safety in the wilderness, learn how to signal for help, how to make a simple shelter for themselves, and more.  Class fee is $10 per family, and each child receives a signalling whistle.  Wednesday, May 5, 10-11 a.m.

Food Dehydration:  This class teaches how simple it is to dehydrate just about any food imaginable!  I’ll show you the basics of dehydration, explain which foods dehydrate best, and demonstrate how to dehydrate and store canned and frozen foods!  The April class is a 45-minute demonstration as part of a speical Cabela’s event and is free.  My May class is 90 minutes long and has a fee of $15.  Attendees of the 90 minute classes receive a class manual.  Saturday, April 24: a Cabela’s special event. For more information, visit their site, www.cabelas.com.  Saturday, May 22, 1:30-3:00, register at survivalmom.com.

If you have questions about my classes or would like to talk about personalizing them for your church group, mom’s group, scout group, etc. email me at lisa@thesurvivalmom.com.
