It’s easy to ignore one voice crying in the wilderness, but when I hear dozens, it’s difficult to tune them out. Robert Kiyosaki, author of the Rich Dad book series, is now proclaiming a coming Depression and the need to stock up on food, buy precious metals, and preparing for a future that is unlike anything we’ve ever experienced. I was actually shocked, watching this video and hear Robert say, “Buy a gun!”
He and his wife have a year’s worth of food, they’ve purchased guns, they have gold, silver, and cash. They’re ready.
Some of the smartest people in the country have recognized that our world is changing. It’s changing rapidly. Someday, perhaps in my grandchildren’s generation, enough time will have passed for historians to look back and clearly see the why and how of this change. Right now, we don’t have a clear perspective and we’re reacting to the eddies of change by doing what we know to do, taking care of our families, and learning as much as we can about basic survival.
I’d love to hit a rewind button and take our world back to 1998 or so. Remember those days not so long ago? Our home values were increasing each year, unemployment was under 5%, 9-11 and Katrina hadn’t happened yet, and we had faith in our leaders and in our government to keep this gargantuan train on its tracks. I feel like I’ve grown up since then. I’m far more cynical about our government and the intentions of our leaders. I no longer feel secure about our nation’s future or that of my family, and I find myself saying, “There’s no security anywhere.”
Long before there were governments who handed out money, there were communities and families who looked out for each other and planned and prepared for hard times. Returning to those days and that mindset isn’t a bad thing at all. Listening to what Robert Kiyosaki and his associates are doing just confirms to me that we’re on the right track.
