**By the way, some of you have asked why I sometimes use Rafflecopter for blog giveaways. First, by leaving your name and email with a third party, Google does not have direct access to that information. Rafflecopter doesn’t use the information for any purpose whatsoever, other than to make my job easier. When the giveaway is finished, I click a button on the Rafflecopter website, and winners are chosen completely at random. I can even email you directly from their site. They sell premium memberships to websites that do a lot of contests and giveaways, which is how their site earns money. They do not sell your name and email addresses!

There may be links in the post above that are “affiliate links.” This means if you click on the link and purchase the item, I will receive an affiliate commission, which does not affect the price you pay for the product. Regardless, I only recommend products or services I use personally and believe will add value to my readers.

Have you ever been in a situation where you needed to purify water in order to drink it? Yes, when backpacking I had to use a small filter. You can only carry so much with you :)

  2. Courtney says

Do I own the book? No I don’t. I’d love to own it, but right now I really don’t have the money to spend… no matter how beneficial I think it would be for me and my family.

  3. Courtney says

Have I ever had to purify water? No, so far I have been fortunate enough to have clean water. But in the past 3 years, there have been 2 times that I’ve been without any water at all when there was a water main break.

Have you ever been in a situation where you needed to purify water in order to drink it? Tell us about it!

Luckily, I’ve never needed to use a purifier, but I have just for fun. Especially when we are out with our kids. It’s a great way to teach them about water and it’s importance.

  5. Lydia says

I have never had to purify our water in an emergency situation. I have been doing a little research on different filters/purifiers for home use and on the go use.

  6. Valerie Z says

I have actually been in a situation where we needed to purify water. Our city flooded last summer and the water reached the aquifers. The water didn’t receed for over a month and then it took a couple more weeks to get all the contamination out of the tap water. Of course I could have purchased bottled water, but that gets really expensive really fast.

I have the book already but would love another as my DH keeps taking my copy! Every day I do something to prepare! Today, I’m ordering mylar bags and O2 absorbers.

Have you ever been in a situation where you needed to purify water in order to drink it?
When my family goes river rafting (sometimes for days) we typically filter and purify our water. I haven’t needed to in an emergency situation yet.

  9. Becky says

I have the book, and I loved reading it. At night while reading in bed I would read certain sections to my husband, especially those that struck me so funny I had to share them. Many things I knew, but had not thought about them in years, others were new information. Sometimes we need a kick start reminder on how to take care of ourselves. Thank you Lisa!

My niece is purschasing this as Christmas presents for other family and friends, since I told her this was not just a “prepping book”, but the type of book you will read over and over again and share the wisdom. Like passing down your favorite recipe from generation to generation.

I do not have a copy of this book. But I did spend a whole summer as a kid on a job site with my father where the local water, well, wasn’t safe to drink without a little help.

  11. says

No, I don’t have the book yet. It is on my wish list.

I have been exposed to Giardia and trust me you want a good filter to prevent being infected!

  12. Abby Hinz says

No, I don’t have the book yet but I’ve been wanting it for some time! I would love to win a copy for Christmas so I can learn how to help my family be better prepared for, well, for just about anything :)

  13. Abby Hinz says

I have never had to purify water for anything but it has been something I’ve been more concerned about lately. I just started to store gallons of water for those just-in-case moments.

  14. Barbara A says

I have a Berkey in the kitchen and love the clean taste it gives, but nothing portable. I need to get something for “on the go” situations.

  15. billiekid says

I have read your book from the library, but I would love to have a copy to add to my “apocalypse library”. It has such great info in it!

  16. Linda says

I am hoping my local Bed Bath and Beyond carries the cup. I love their Christmas coupons. I do have book in print and an ebook, and I have given it to my BFF who is also prepping. Her daughter in law loves the book, so if I win, I can send the book to her.

  17. Linda says

I’ve never had to purify water, but one of the first things I did as a prepper was investigate this and make a few purchases like pure bleach and water purification tablets. I did get a Brita filter cup and a water filtration system. (I tend to over prepare.) If anything ever happens, I’ll be ready to help others out.

  18. Meranda says

I have not yet had to purify water for any reason yet, but know that that this might now always be the case. I want to be prepared for whatever may come my way and have been looking into the LifeStraws.

Also, I forgot to answer the second part to the book comment question. Your book (when I borrowed it) has helped me in making a list for what I need to buy for my family.

I’ve never had to purify water; I’m thankful for our great well. I’d love to get a hand pump for it but wow is that expensive. I just got your ebook on sale and am reading about purifying water; lots to think about. It’s all new to me. Just trying to do one thing at a time when my brain wants to do it ALL at once. My wallet can’t afford more than one thing at a time anyway! Would love a copy of the book!

  20. Isabeau says

I have had one time where I could have filtered water. We lost power overnight in a blizzard. We have a private well and no power to get water. The power had gone out while we were sleeping and the water had backed out of the pipes so there wasn’t much for drinking/washing. I gathered snow and began to try to boil it on our wood-burning stove. Thankfully the power came back up before we had to drink much “snow water”.

  21. Gerardo says

I don’t have a portable filter. I have to think on getting one. I purify by filter at home, and on the filed, either boiling or tables.

  22. Cheryl Hart says

Oh! I sure do own your book Lisa! I found it at our local Fred Meyer store. First I just read the book (naturally absorbing alot of information). Then I went back and reread it putting Post-it notes at the top of the pages that I wanted to do more with. (poor book looks like a rather bedraggled butterfly!)
Now I’m at the stage of going through all the Post-its, using the infamous highlighter.
Poor little book is getting rather sad – cracked spine, loose pages. I suppose if I’ll have to give in and get another copy even if I don’t win!

  23. Trisha says

I don’t own the book….yet!! It’s on the top of my list! I’d love to win it, but if not, I’ll definitely be buying it in the next couple weeks!

  24. Trisha says

I’ve never had to purify water in an emergency situation. There have been a couple times where there was a problem with our drinking water and the city said we needed to boil it before drinking to make sure it was safe. Other than that, nothing too serious, thankfully!

  25. Della says

I would love to have this book. I have almost ordered it a copy of times. but havent yet. so would love the chance to get.

  26. Tami says

Hummm–we did have to purify water…a boil order was given in the city where we live–that is very inconvenient!!!!!

  27. Tiffany says

In the field we had to chemically purify the water so we could drink it… didn’t take all the drift out orbit though. Strange how I used to just drink it before and now I pick out lint lol.

  28. Kim says

I would love to own a copy of Survival Mom. I read the one from the library, but would like to have a copy at home to refer to. Thanks

  29. Crystal says

We had to purify water during a five day hike in the mountains. I would say this was one of the best experiences of my life.

  30. Rebecca Love says

I’m reading your book on my kindle right now and I loooove it!

When I was deployed to Afghanistan water purification was a huge issue. We only drank bottled water but even our shower water had to be purified because they would poison it with chemical agents. My experience really drove home how quickly your water supply changes your chances of survival. You simply cannot rely on others to know what to do to protect your family. We really are just one natural disaster away from this knowledge being put to good use!

  31. Sarah B says

I have had to drink filtered water while on overseas travel. I really would love to own a copy of this book and have found such useful information on this website!

  32. Marcia says

I checked out survival mom from the library. It was great! I’d love my own copy….great Christmas gift idea! Fortunately, I’ve never been in a situation where I’ve needed to purify water but recently we had a sewage pipe break in an area of my town and I got to thinking how easy it would be for sewage to back up and come out the pipes, contaminating our water….

  33. SueAnn says

I just got your e-book and read it, but the hard copy sure would be handy! I’ve always had reverse osmosis since I live close to the beach, and the water can be high sodium, but I’ve never had to worry about clean water to drink. I wish I could afford a Berkey!

  34. Roxy says

I would love to win a copy of this book. I follow you on Facebook, Twitter, AND Pinterest cause I love the things you post.
