Try this easy, peachy Dutch oven cobbler

For a fast, fun dessert, try this 1-quart Dutch oven recipe. Ingredients include:
2 cans peaches, 1 partial box of white or vanilla instant cake mix, and butter (not pictured)
Dump both cans of peaches into the Dutch Oven.
Add an even layer of cake mix over the peaches, topped with butter.
Place the lid on the Dutch oven and cook for 45 minutes with charcoal above and below the pot. In this case, we used my Lodge Cast Iron Sportsman’s Grill as a cooking platform.
This picture of the end result makes me hungry! We like to serve it up with a scoop of vanilla ice cream.

Oh this looks like an easy recipe for the kids to help out with. I’ll have to save this one.
I’m guessing just about any canned fruit in light syrup would work with this?

Erica, pretty much. This also works great using fruit pie filling and cake mix. Some that I have seen or tried have been cherry/devils food or red velvet cake mix, blueberry/white or yellow cake mix, apple/yellow or white cake mix. Really any combination that you think sounds good.

When I was a Boy Scout Assistant Scout Master, we called these dump cakes… we also made sure to use a well seasoned or well oiled dutch oven to prevent sticking! Thanks for the memories!!!

Try using Duncan Hines Yellow cake mix for a different taste. Also for an easier clean up line the oven with aluminum foil – the heavier the better.

When I was in the Boy Scouts, many many years ago, we would always take a camping trip in July. One of my friends and fellow Scouts (John) would have his birthday during our trip. His father, who was also the Assistant Scout Master, would make the peach cobbler you mentioned in his dutch oven. He used a yellow cake mix instead of the white cake mix. You could literally smell the cobbler cooking from miles away. And after dinner, sitting around a camp fire eating that delicious cobbler was one of my most cherished childhood memories. Thank you so much for letting me re-live that memory one more time.
