Recently I was trying to figure out a better way to carry water in my purse.  I didn’t like the huge water bottles because they weigh so much, and the smaller containers are made of plastic that is easily dented and cracked.  Well, I think I found the solution in the form of the old-fashioned flask.

I purchased a Coleman flask at Target to give my idea a try.  It holds 8 ounces.  While it’s heavier than a flimsy plastic bottle, it’s also far more sturdy, and it’s nearly flat and doesn’t take up as much room in my small purse.  Plastic caps on water bottles can leak, but so far, this flask is water-tight.  And, heck, it just looks cool!

R.E.I. has a good variety of flasks on their website and I found a couple of really cute ones here and here.

  1. Excellent way to save space in my bag! I admit I had to laugh at the thought of me pulling that out and giving my thirsty kid a swig say…. in church? LOL….

  2. What a fantastic idea! The plastic water bottles are awkward and a flask would fit perfectly into a purse. I’ve already checked our local Target and they have the Coleman in stock. This was a perfectly timed post because I was going to Target tomorrow morning. Thanks!

  3. Take a look at the Nalgene flask. I’ve had a couple of these for several years and they have never leaked or broken.

  4. You might want to look at Sei Water bottles (seiwater.com). We found these plastic “flasks” to be very easy to carry and they come in three sizes. You can buy a case and reuse the bottles as desired.

  5. The Coleman flask On Amazon did not receive very good reviews. Most say it is cheaply made.
    Check out the Stanley flask:

Received 4 out of 5 stars. I own one, and it has been decent so far.

  6. This makes me laugh. A few years ago I sent a variety of water bottles including a Nalgene flask to my sister who was having trouble with becoming dehydrated while at college. She loved the shape of the flask for the same reason–it fit nicely in her purse and it became her favorite bottle to carry to class with her. One day she was sipping her water in class when a gal behind her said, “Oh, so that’s why you’re always smiling!” Hilarious–it was just water!

Those Nalgene flasks are nice and light and water tight as well. We have lots of their other bottles–good quality stuff.

  7. Anyone know of any heavy duty flasks not made of plastic? All the cheap ones get scratched or dinged or mangled. How about a stainless flask coated in linex. Now that would be some flask!
