Debt is Slavery, a book review
If I could rub a magic lamp and have a single wish granted, it would be to erase all debt owed by my readers. Debt is a crushing burden, and for many people wishing to live a more prepared and self-reliant life, debt is what usually holds them back. Debt is Slaveryby Michael Mihalik, is a 112 page, very readable book that would persuade even the most dedicated shopaholic to think twice before grabbing that well-worn credit card.
Because so many young people find themselves in debt, this book should be required reading for every high school senior. In fact, the author describes how he ended up in debt at a young age due to a lack of knowledge about personal finance and the desire to have everything and have it right now. This is the same trap that entangles millions of Americans, both young and old, every year.
In one of the more inspiring chapters, Mihalik explains the importance of focusing on achievements and experiences rather than accumulating more stuff. This was the main lesson I took from this book. Possessions, as well as the debt they often bring, tie us down and add unnecessary expenses to our budgets. He points out the freedom of living simply with fewer possessions rather than more.
Debt is Slavery is simple to understand, logical in its’ sequence, and optimistic in its’ encouragement. It really is possible to be free of debt, and this book is a step by step guide.
