14 Important Survival Skills: Beyond starting a fire and shooting a gun

Ask any prepper or survivalist to list the most important survival skills, and they’ll almost certainly hand you this list or something very close to it.
- know how to build a fire
- know how to build a shelter
- know how to signal for help
- know how to locate and purify water
- know how to get food
- know basic First Aid
These are all important, and I admire the heck out of anyone who is proficient at all of them, but while I was doing some research for my Survival Skills Report Card for kids, I came across an entirely different list of survival skills. Noddy’s list, on her Gallimaufree blog, includes skills such as “Believe it is so”, and “Plan B”. Her skills are more mental and psychological than physical, and I appreciate her insights drawn from first-hand experiences at the Oklahoma City bombing and multiple other disasters. Check out her entire list of “14 Important Survival Skills“.
