INSTANT SURVIVAL TIP: A Flashlight Shall Light the Way

You don’t need to panic the next time the lights go out if you keep a flashlight on a magnet mounted right next to your electrical breaker box.  Even on the darkest nights, you’ll be able to check for blown fuses or tripped breakers.  If all the switches in the electrical box are facing the same direction, nothing has tripped.  In that case, check to see if there are any lights on in the neighborhood.  If not, give your power company a call.  Then, go room to room, with that same handy flashlight, and unplug all electrical equipment in order to avoid damaging power surges.   Be sure to leave a couple of light or lamp switches in the ‘on’ position so you’ll immediately know when your electricity has been restored.  Thanks, Martha Stewart, for this handy tip!
